What I eat is not the government's business. The government doesn't reward me for exercising but wants to punish me for enjoying something sugary?

I don't even drink sugary soft drinks and I still think this is silly. Why single out sugary soft drinks but not fried donuts and such? I can't approve of the precedent such a tax would set. Feels like soft-target revenue raising to me that crosses the line of what government should be doing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22534369.post-83678090620327536222016-03-21T18:59:10.513+11:002016-03-21T18:59:10.513+11:00From the article by Bourke

It's barely high school level analysis imo.

Laughable to think that the Coalition would have any hard targets in this budget such as new taxes, they want to get re-elected not be "courageous" as the saying goes.Funksoul123https://www.blogger.com/profile/14512374627441568219noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22534369.post-79311809310080199922016-03-21T08:01:25.469+11:002016-03-21T08:01:25.469+11:00Fairfax processes sugar? The local council for years distorted the land market by not allowing cane growing land to be subdivided. Cane farmers turned to growing mulch, etc. One loopy local councillor wants to run the cane tram (that for years ran through town even when the Bruce ran down the main street of Nambour) as a "historic" link between Aldi and Coles.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22534369.post-41600739464443245932016-03-21T06:35:51.095+11:002016-03-21T06:35:51.095+11:00"[Christensen] would sooner have people pay z..."[Christensen] would sooner have people pay zakat than a sugar tax."
