The Farr that I read deals 'mostly' with facts (which in turn informs his opinion). Whereas with Akerman it is all about the bluster and overblown "whiney" melodrama. To these eyes, the names Henderson and Akerman sit much better together in comparison to the names Farr and Akerman.

"It is because non-issues like Gillard-AWU or Thomson-HSU or Slipper-Ashby occupy the attention of Farr, Dyrenfurth and others..."
Thomson-HSU, a non-issue? Of course, it is not a policy issue, but surely it is still an issue. Even though I am loathe to do it, I will pull out a meaningless motherhood statement and say that I have never voted for the LNP at any level of government. Ever. As a supporter of the government I can still see quite clearly that the Thomson-HSU scandal was, and is, an issue.

Whether it was one that was made worse by the ineptitude of the incumbents, or the sensationalisation of the facts by the (mostly biased) MSM is less relevant than the fact that it is an issue due to the sheer hubris and scale of the wrong-doing involved.

I know members of the HSU, and the Thomson-HSU scandal occupies a lot of their attention (as it should for all supporters of the union movement). The constant stream of "how to vote" cards arriving in their mailboxes (alluding to the problem) will not let them forget it even if they tried!RugbyFannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22534369.post-48568299713090944692012-12-06T21:38:27.659+11:002012-12-06T21:38:27.659+11:00Gah! And that's the point, isn't it: that the notion of the media as a fourth estate depends on a variety of opinion. With fewer proprietors the media becomes increasingly one of the political players. Murdoch is certainly a political player. It bewilders me that the left in Australia don't treat him as such.
