Abbott then claimed that is was petty to pick on MPs and that their increase was incidental to all workers getting one. It was bizarre-he wasn't making excuses, he seemed to genuinely believe he and other MPs should not be judged.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22534369.post-48741872425041588662012-09-18T02:24:59.095+10:002012-09-18T02:24:59.095+10:00Over the years i have watched the different type o...Over the years i have watched the different type of liberal emerge

a)the nice and cultured gentlemen like Malcolm Fraser et al

b)the wankerish prick as the wanna bee with more money than sense Michael Kroger etc

c)the cultured intellectual thats cool with small l issues Petros Georgiou

d)new self entitled narcissistic next gen
Kelly o Dwyer

e)rich and cool Malcolm Turnball

f)political monster and wanker

Insert name here

smirkAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22534369.post-26790588821242132422012-09-18T01:49:27.362+10:002012-09-18T01:49:27.362+10:00Must see television

He's a pretty smart bloke, but to fulfill the sporty bit he started running the mile as a competitive event. It wasn't very popular back then (early 50s?) so he blitzed the field. When it comes down to brass tacks, he abandoned her, and he abandoned me, and he abandoned his moral obligation to assist in raising a child he helped create. Catholics, I believe, have even stronger views about this sort of thing.

With regard to Abbott though, maybe the woman didn't want to marry him or raise his child in any way. When you have a child with someone, you are tied to them for the rest of your life, like it or not. It's one thing to shag someone, it's quite another to have a lifelong tie to them. That is where I would give Abbott the benefit of the doubt.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22534369.post-25017658341613881842012-09-16T23:27:07.347+10:002012-09-16T23:27:07.347+10:00Great post, especially with regard to the Sydney-c...Great post, especially with regard to the Sydney-centric nature (inevitable, as you say, and therefore with its inevitable blind spots) of David Marr's analysis. I know someone who went to Riverview in the 1950s-60s and your account of its ambience and its moulding of students' values and self-regard is spot-on.

Don't give too much weight to the Rhodes Scholar thing, though. I was recently asked to write someone a reference as part of their application for a Rhodes scholarship so I hied me over to the website and had a look at the criteria.
