Well now

What all the wise men promised has not happened, and what all the damned fools said would happen has come to pass.

- William Lamb, 2nd Viscount Melbourne (1779-1848; Prime Minister of Great Britain 1834 and 1835-41. The city is named after him)

At certain revolutions all the damned
Are brought; and feel by turns the bitter change
    Of fierce extremes

  4. Andrew,

It seems the dog whistles were effective. As much as Labor had issues, I wasn't convinced the alternative was any better. Isn't that why we should change governments? Why go for something different just because it is different? Keating was right when he said that line about self interest first and daylight second, but geez, some of the froth from the LNP in this campaign made me spit out my breakfast.

Two questions....How long do you think it will be before people start flooding the letters pages in the newspapers with cries that "we didn't know" like they did in QLD, and secondly, you will continue to keep blogging about media coverage of politics won't you?

I would have been quite happy with people voting for self-interest, which would have meant an Abbott defeat.

I just a bit worried people can't seem to see their own self-interest.

    1. Yes, I can't help thinking of what the late Joe Bageant would think of this. Poor people in the US voting against their own interests was a perennial theme of his.

Ah, Joe Bageant. What a great man.

remember the global financial crisis that "no one saw coming"? Joe Bageant did. he wrote about it Deer Hunting With Jesus in 2005.

A great man, a great writer, comparable to Elder, whose own writing is so astute you know that this blog will be vindicated before too long. It is well worth the wait. in the darkest hour the great avenger is born.
